Belt Care Instructions

Leather is a natural material that develops character over time. With the right care, your Buckle belt can provide years of reliable wear. The level of care required depends on the type of leather used. Before applying any leather treatment, always test on a small, inconspicuous area first. Leather care products can deepen the colour of leather, particularly natural and vegetable-tanned finishes. Apply all products sparingly and allow the leather to fully absorb before wearing.

  • Our full grain vegetable-tanned leather belts are made from the highest grade of leather and are designed to age beautifully, developing a unique patina through everyday wear.

    To maintain your belt:

    • Regularly wipe away dust and surface dirt with a clean, soft cloth.
    • Every few months, apply a quality leather conditioner sparingly to maintain flexibility and nourish the leather fibres.
    • For dry or heavily used leather, a restorative leather oil may be applied occasionally.
    • For additional protection, especially during storage or extended periods without use, a leather dressing can help protect the surface.

Avoid over-conditioning. Too much oil or treatment can soften the leather excessively and may alter the natural finish.

With proper care, full grain vegetable-tanned leather will continue to develop character and become more unique over time.

  • Our split cowhide genuine leather belts are designed for dependable everyday wear and require minimal maintenance.

    To care for your belt:

    • Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth as needed.
    • Avoid soaking the leather or exposing it to excessive moisture.

Unlike full grain leather, split cowhide does not develop the same natural patina over time and generally does not require regular conditioning.

Simple care and avoiding unnecessary exposure to harsh conditions will help maintain the appearance and performance of your belt.

  • Our top grain buffalo leather belts are selected for their strength, durability and everyday performance. These leathers require less maintenance than full grain vegetable-tanned leather.

To care for your buffalo leather belt:

    • Wipe regularly with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust and surface marks.
    • If the leather becomes dry over time, apply a small amount of leather conditioner sparingly.
    • Allow any conditioner to fully absorb before wearing.

Avoid excessive oils or heavy treatments, as these can soften the leather and change the intended finish.

For most customers, simple cleaning and occasional conditioning is all that is required to keep a buffalo leather belt looking its best.

  • To help your Buckle belt last longer:

    • Avoid prolonged exposure to water, extreme heat or direct sunlight.
    • Allow leather to dry naturally if it becomes wet — do not use heaters, hairdryers or other direct heat sources.
    • Store your belt flat or loosely rolled when not in use.
    • If you need to roll your belt for storage or travel, always roll it with the finished face side of the leather facing outwards. Rolling the belt inwards can place unnecessary stress on the leather surface and may cause creasing or distortion over time.
    • Avoid using household cleaners, detergents or products not specifically designed for leather.

Braces Care Instructions

Our braces are made in Australia from premium Belgian elastic, finished with metal fittings and quality leather components. To keep them looking their best:

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth when needed
  • For stubborn marks, hand wash the affected area with mild soap and warm water
  • Avoid letting water or soap touch the metal fittings or leather components
  • Do not machine wash or dry clean
  • Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight
  • Store flat to maintain shape

At Buckle, we believe quality products should be enjoyed for years, not replaced when a small component wears out. The clips and fittings are naturally the parts of braces that experience the most use over time, which is why we offer a complimentary clip replacement service for Buckle-branded braces. Our Sydney workshop can refresh worn clips and fittings, helping extend the life of your braces and keep them part of your wardrobe for many years to come.
